Grocery Gadget Support -

Dear customers,

In order to enable Grocery Gadget with continued improvements and customer support, we have had to add ads and subscriptions.

We hope you understand and keep on using Grocery Gadget.

Best regards,

These ads are pissing me off. I want to revert back to the previous version please? It worked great and didn't need any improvment. :-(

This is not acceptable and I am not understanding and will NOT continue to use Grocery Gadget.  I gladly purchased this app a number of years ago so that I would NOT have ads.  This sounds a lot like extortion to me.  Too bad, because it was the ONE APP I used to use on a daily basis.

I paid for the pro version of this app. It was to be add free. I also don't remember anything about a re-occurring subscription. I feel ripped off!!! Charge whatever way you like for your current app and new customers but don't start doing things like this to customers from 3 or 4 years ago. I can't even find a way to pay to have adds removed. :(

I also paid to remove the adds. Oh well. Removed grocery gadgets app as well as my loyalty to their company. Moved to List Ease....bEEutiful app. You might give it a go.

No, I don't understand. When we pay for these apps, they're supposed to be add free...

I paid substantially more than the price of a standard app for Grocery Gadget. I am now being asked to pay again. By all means use a subscription for new users, but don't rip off you log term loyal customers.

This is crap, I paid for this and now you are sending ads!

Count me in the list as PISSED OFF.  I also paid for an ad free version. I use a smaller iPhone, and that ad just uses up way too much real estate.  I'm not threatening to quit your app, but I am very annoyed and will not recommend it, as I had been doing, till you change this policy.

I agree with everyone. Have used this app daily, worked great. Upgraded to the pro version and paid for that. There should be no ads for pro version..!!!

What a shame! I have used the app as my only shopping app for years - and had happily paid for an add free version. I guess this is the end of my relation with grocery gadget! :-(

Wow! I have only just found all of these comments by accident while trying to figure out why I've got ads all of a sudden. I'm really annoyed about the ads and even more annoyed that we weren't informed that it would be happening. I've really enjoyed this app but hate the ads that I paid not to have.

OFF. So you pay for an ad then they change the terms?

How about ads for new users not the ones that supported you from the beginning.

    Terrible

PR blunder aside, I too am actually happy to pay a subscription to keep the sync server and web services available. $1 a month would be reasonable. Also on the PR side: how about a press release or email or web posting about what is going on? Having the best grocery app disappear from the iOS App Store is frightening - the other grocery apps are all garbage. Please - tell us loyal customers what is going on!

This is ridiculous, I paid for this app a while ago and I should not have to pay for it a second time! If you want to charge new users that's fine but you should not penalize the people that paid for the app already and help you become a success.

This is simply not the way one does this kind of business. The whole idea of a "Pro" version is to get rid of the ads. What you're doing is not right.

Too bad your business model is clearly not working. Neither are your customer relations.

I hope you appreciate the "bait and switch" attitude taken on by your previously loyal customers.

I paid $4.99 (I think it was that much) several years ago for the Pro "AD FREE" version.

You put ads back in last year anyway, and went to a subscription model which, if I remember correctly, was said to be the only way to remove ads. I dutifully paid up. The app is worth it.

Now I find that even with the subscription THERE ARE STILL ADS. Really. Okay, forget this. Cancelling subscription (yes, it will be a year but whatever) and finding some other way -- any other way, in fact EVEN IF IT COSTS MORE because you clearly think that your customers are a revenue stream but otherwise are of no importance to you.

As I see it, you have three options:

    1) Remove the ads from the pro version (and no subscription which there are no details of that I can find)

    2) Give everyone a full refund who bought the Pro version - most of us bought it specifically to NOT have ads.

    3) Face complaints (federal, state, BBB (not that that is meaningful)), etc) and possible lawsuits.  We all bought the app under one set of conditions - you can not suddenly change them at your whim.  At a minimum, you are now guilty of false advertising (you may be in breach of contract as well).

For me this is more a gigantic public relations blunder than anything else. Two things: One, it was sneaked into an 'upgrade' without warning. Two, there is no mention of how much the subscription service is going to cost. $1 a month? $50 a month?  This is a nice program, It would be worth $1 a month towards server upkeep, but not much more. If the developer had simply informed us of, for example, the app is losing money because of infrastructure costs and we can either shut it down or ask for money towards support, or charge for upgrades, then possibly the outcry could have been avoided.

Isn't there something about "Truth in Advertising?" I was told if I would XX amount I would have the pro version without ads. Then, some time later I have to pay a subscription to have the ads removed again. Why was it advertised to so many people that the pro version was ad free, but it really wasn't.

    Truth in advertising my friends!!!!!

What finally worked for me is to delete the app after making sure it was backed up to cloud and then reinstalling it. First time opening the app it asked if I wanted to restore my purchase and when I did it said I was good until 11/17 so it is .99¢ a year which I have no problem with.

I don't think anyone at Grocery Gadgets is reading this forum and probably no action will be taken. I think the best thing to do is to go the Apple App Store (iTunes) and write a review mentioning these grievances because it will reach a broader public audience.

Yesterday I paid for the subscription via iTunes. Why I see ads in the app?

The problem is that all of us old Pro owners paid for the app specifically to remove ads.  We then effectively had our money stolen and were told to pay more money for the same thing we already paid for.  I prefer pay-once but I'm open to a $0.99 annual subscription.  However, the only ethical handling would have been to either refund everyone that already paid to have ads removed or give us a number of years equal to what we paid ($5 iirc).  They did neither which is why all of the Pro owners are/were angry.

Not good business practice. I hate the ads, very bothersome. This is sure fire way to loose your most loyal customers.

Most apps all for grandfather clause where there are not ads for purchases prior to your policy change.

Then new and future users will know that there will be ads and can make the choice.

I have been a faithful user for many years and not this.

I am seriously thinking of dropping the app.

I can tell you how to get the non-ads version of Grocery Gadgets back if you backup your iPhone to a Mac with Time Machine.

    1. Sign up for a sharing account in Grocery Gadgets and sync your set up.  If you already have a sync-share account setup go to next step.
    2. Delete Grocery Gadgets from your iPhone
    3. Go into Finder on your Mac, do a Mac HD search for "Grocery g".
    4. When you find it, click it to highlight it.
    5. Go into Time Machine, and restore the current version with a pre-subscription version of the file.
    6. Connect your iPhone to your Mac.
    7. Open iTunes.
    8. Sync.
    9. You got your purchase back that you originally paid for.

To those trying to shame us who rightfully paid for this app already, it's 99 cents per month.  If I am wrong, I stand to be corrected. I paid $5.39. Why should I have to pay for anything I paid once for, and especially if I like my old simple non new updated item?

You buy a dress, love it, and where it everywhere.  A few years later (while the dress is still in the prime of her life) you get told that in order to keep the dress you must pay monthly for it from thenceforth.  That has got to be the joke of the century.  Paying for products you already paid for once, not just a second time, but monthly?

I would agree.  I don't understand.  I paid for this app, so now you're adding ads?  If someone purchased it, you need to block ads for them.
