In order to enable Grocery Gadget with continued improvements and customer support, we have had to add ads and subscriptions.

We hope you understand and keep on using Grocery Gadget.

Best regards,

These ads are pissing me off. I want to revert back to the previous version please? It worked great and didn't need any improvment. :-(

This is not acceptable and I am not understanding and will NOT continue to use Grocery Gadget.  I gladly purchased this app a number of years ago so that I would NOT have ads.  This sounds a lot like extortion to me.  Too bad, because it was the ONE APP I used to use on a daily basis.

No, I don't understand. When we pay for these apps, they're supposed to be add free...

I paid substantially more than the price of a standard app for Grocery Gadget. I am now being asked to pay again. By all means use a subscription for new users, but don't rip off you log term loyal customers.

I suggest Twitter, Facebook would be better places to comment. Add Pingwell, the developers

I paid for the pro version of this app. It was to be add free. I also don't remember anything about a re-occurring subscription. I feel ripped off!!! Charge whatever way you like for your current app and new customers but don't start doing things like this to customers from 3 or 4 years ago. I can't even find a way to pay to have adds removed. :(

I completely agree with everyone above. Plus, the way you snuck in the subscription service without mentioning it in the update notes is dirty and underhanded! I updated based on your information that the update included only a combined lists view and "bug fixes". Is this what you call a "bug fix"?!?

For me this is more a gigantic public relations blunder than anything else. Two things: One, it was sneaked into an 'upgrade' without warning. Two, there is no mention of how much the subscription service is going to cost. $1 a month? $50 a month?  This is a nice program, It would be worth $1 a month towards server upkeep, but not much more. If the developer had simply informed us of, for example, the app is losing money because of infrastructure costs and we can either shut it down or ask for money towards support, or charge for upgrades, then possibly the outcry could have been avoided.

I would agree.  I don't understand.  I paid for this app, so now you're adding ads?  If someone purchased it, you need to block ads for them.

This is ridiculous, I paid for this app a while ago and I should not have to pay for it a second time! If you want to charge new users that's fine but you should not penalize the people that paid for the app already and help you become a success.

PR blunder aside, I too am actually happy to pay a subscription to keep the sync server and web services available. $1 a month would be reasonable. Also on the PR side: how about a press release or email or web posting about what is going on? Having the best grocery app disappear from the iOS App Store is frightening - the other grocery apps are all garbage. Please - tell us loyal customers what is going on!

    RIPP
OFF. So you pay for an ad then they change the terms?

How about ads for new users not the ones that supported you from the beginning.

    Terrible

I agree with everyone. Have used this app daily, worked great. Upgraded to the pro version and paid for that. There should be no ads for pro version..!!!

Count me in the list as PISSED OFF.  I also paid for an ad free version. I use a smaller iPhone, and that ad just uses up way too much real estate.  I'm not threatening to quit your app, but I am very annoyed and will not recommend it, as I had been doing, till you change this policy.

Grocery Gadget was initially a product by Flixoft, Inc. and it appears that it has been bought out by Pingwell.   It is this new company, Pingwell, that has made this terrible PR blunder by not contacting  paid Pro users in advance of the move to a subscription service and automatically downgrading the app for loyal Pro users.  The Pingwell website claims, "Pingwell apps put shoppers first because attention is the scarcest commodity of all." That's rich. The Grocery Gadget app has been removed from the iTunes store, so I cannot find the cost of the subscription service. However, their "new" app, Shopping List-Grocery Exchange, is $0.99 for one week, $2.99 for 4 weeks, and a whopping $19.99 per year.  As others have stated here, I wouldn't mind paying a bit more for server usage, but I will not pay $19.99 EVERY YEAR for a list app. It's not as though this app offers security of sensitive information such as 1Password (a password manager). After my "free month subscription" of GG expires, I will be moving to another app, probably Intellilist <http://www.ameridea.com/en/apps/happylist/home.html> which has very good reviews on the ITunes store.

I have started using List Ease, recommended by Joe Del Monte above. Really simple, but effective app.

I paid a LOT of money for this app to be ad free several years ago. What is this crap? I'm extremely pissed off! Ads are annoying and honestly, the reason I paid for the app was twofold: I loved its functionality and figured it was worth the cost to be ad free. Pingwell, it's disgusting that you bought this app from the original developers and destroyed it. I want my money back. You broke the contract I agreed to, that's unacceptable.

I agree with all the users. We paid for an add free program. Please provide an option to refund our money. I am sure that most users will be dropping you as fast as they can. Looking for other apps as I type this. You are a major business failure.

I paid for the program. That's a binding legal transaction. Changing the rules on your part changes that contract. You are not trustworthy. How can we ever buy from your company again after this ripoff ??

For all the reasons mentioned, I will request a refund and then file a complaint with your BBB...
I cannot believe a company would treat their long term customers this way. I can only assume new management made this decision....

Sorry I don't understand. As all the others have said you made a contract with us when we purchased the program. Charge new users If you know feel the need to generate revenue, honor those of us who paid for the app a long time ago with a free full featured subscription for indefinitely.

I will be deleting the app along with leaving a negative review in the app store. I also PAID for the full version, which was to be ad-free. There are several family members who also purchased the app so we could share lists to make shopping easier on all of us. Up until now I have enjoyed using the app. I DO NOT understand why you are forcing those of us who had already purchased the app to pay even further.

I am extremely dissatisfied and upset!

Like other users, I am requesting a FULL REFUND! If I do not receive said refund I will also be filing a complaint with the BBB.

I paid for an ad free app. How can you now, after years, start charging an annual fee.  I should be grandfather in on the upgrades. If you want to charge me then. Give me a refund. You have no righ to charge me. I was told I would be add free.
