Import from other Apps

Support Supervisor -

Shopper

Email the data from Shopper app to Shopper@grocerygadgets.com

You should have a GG group account with its email set to the same address as the email account you sent the Shopper data from.

BigOven

1. Export a shopping list of ingredients from the BigOven computer app (not their iPhone app or their website).

2. Sign into your group account at our web portal www.grocerygadgets.com, select Shopping List tab, click "More actions"->"Import List".

GroceryIQ

Send your shopping list email from the Grocery IQ app to Groceryiq@grocerygadgets.com

Make sure you have a portal account on www.grocerygadgets.com and your email configured in "My Group Settings" is the same as the default email account on your iPhone.

Note: it may take several minutes for your email to process.

HandyCookBooks

Send your recipe email from the HandyCookBook app to HandyCookBook@grocerygadgets.com.

Make sure you have a portal account on www.grocerygadgets.com and your email configured in "My Group Settings" is the same as the default email account on your iPhone.

Note: it may take several minutes for your email to process.

Creating a CSV file for import

You can import into our app via the web portal www.grocerygadgets.com. If you have not already done so, sign-up for a free group account right from the app.

Use Excel to put your data in the following format and save the file as a comma-separated values (CSV) file:

ItemName, Category, Quantity, Remarks, Tax1, Tax2, Price
Sample ItemName, Sample Category, 0.00, Some optional text, True, False,1.50

The first line must be a header line identical to the one above, and subsequent lines will be your items similarly to the second line above. You can then sign-in at the portal, pick "More actions", click on the "Import list" section and provide the needed information to import your file. Any changes made to your data at the portal are instantly synced to your iPhone, and viceversa.

I want to import lists from the GROCERIES app. but when I send it to grocery gadgets.com I learn that .groceries is not an acceptable format. I believe I saw an indication that the Groceries app is one format that should be accepted. I am using the latest update, so maybe the file format has changed. Is there a way to easily import this list of 392 items?

    Thank you,

    Villadox

Hi, thanks for contacting us. Only the above mentioned import apps & protocols are supported.

You can edit Groceries app CSV file to match out format (described above as well), and upload as a regular CSV.

I would like to add barcode, size, unit, packaging, brand and an image (link or binary encoded) to the CSV-import.

    Is that possible?

(The default product file is "rather" US-centric.)

Hi Markus, thanks for your feature request.

We are planning to completely re-do the Web Portal, and such enhancement for import feature is on our road-map.

When will the full CSV format be available? I too would like to be able to import as many fields as I can, such as UPC and the other fields. On my grocer's website, I can export product details that include the UPC and and many product characteristics, such as the products specific to that chain's label. Also, after trying other food listing apps before I found Gadget, I have data that I would like to import to Gadget rather than scan in again.

For CVS imports, perhaps you could provide an empty sample spreadsheet matching your fields that we download to create our CSV file. This would avoid user's mistakes such as missed or out of sequence fields as well as the proper format for each field, and default contents.

I imagine imports from your supported apps listed above could become a headache when those schemas change!

    Thanks!

I too am very interested in being able to import more fields that are available in the app, but not available in the fields in the example above.  Any update here on timing of that web portal release?

Also, I would be extremely interested in getting an export of my data so that I can clean it up manually in a spreadsheet and re-import it back into the app.  Any way I can get an export of my data that contains all the fields?

I love this grocery app. I purchased the Handy CookBook app and I am trying to import my recipes into the GroceryGadget Recipe section directly from Handy Cookbook.  I am following your instructions and sending an email to handycookbook@grocerygadgets.com from the Handy CookBook app.  Grocery Gadget is receiving the email and processing it but it says 0 ingredients were processed.  I can see the email that has been sent out from the Handy Cookbook app and there is data (ingredients) in the hcl file.  So it appears the Handy Cookbook side of this process is working.  And it appears the grocery app side is working in that it is receiving and processing the email, but the ingredients are empty.  Any ideas? Thanks.

    Are you guys serious?

    (1) In order to import a shopping list from bigoven I have to use their DESKTOP APP? What is this, 1987???? Bigoven has a perfectly servicable mobile app and website - which BTW do NOT integrate easily with their desktop app. I bought this app specifically because of the integration, but this method is totally useless

    (2) I have to create a separate account to create a support comment/request??? I realize you want to use zendesk - great tool - but come on, integrate it with the accounts created on your website

GG web app does not work at all. Can't delete a thing or change quanity in Chrome or IE. And you say limited support? How about no support. Just take the money and run. I'd be ashamed.

I want to export my lists to GroceryIQ, how can I do that?  I would like to be able to use the Android app I paid for but can't because I can't log in to the paid version.

Has grocery gadget been discontinued? The Apple Store no longer includes it.
